We had our last Buddy Reading session today. We finished watching our GoAnimate videos about plants and then headed out to the front lawn to read together and eat some yummy freezies. Everyone had a great time for our last meeting of the year. Thanks grade six for all of your help this year!

The kindergartens came to visit us in our classroom this morning. Last week we wrote each of the kindergartens a letter telling them about grade one and invited them to come visit us. When they first arrived, we gave them a guided tour of our classroom, explaining what everything is and what we do with it. Next, we brought them to the SMARTboard and showed them how to use the SMARTResponse clickers. We had them answer questions about what we had shown them on the tour. They did very well with our little quiz. I think they are ready for grade one in the fall!

The kindergarten, grade one and grade two classes went to Miller School this morning to participate in our Play Day activities. We had eight stations and each group got to rotate through the stations trying out all of the fun activities. We had a snack of frozen yogurt part way through the morning. Everyone had an awesome time!

On June 9th, we went on our year end field trip with the grade twos and grade threes. We all went to the Motherwell Homestead at Abernathy. We all had an awesome day looking at the dugout and the animals in the barn, touring the house, weeding and watering the plants in the garden, and going on the wagon ride. Throughout the day we pretended we were real pioneers working for money to pay for some land. What all learned so much!

We are becoming such good readers because we are practicing daily during guided reading and literacy centers. Our stamina for Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, and Writing has grown and grown this year!

For the week leading up to St. Patrick's Day, we tried to catch a leprechaun. We made a trap and set it each day with different green things as bait. We tried different green foods and some gold but he always got away. He left us some tattoos, some little shamrocks and some cupcakes to eat.
